FUEL: J R Rix & Sons Ltd has announced it will continue its expansion into the offshore wind sector after unveiling a 16 per cent rise in group turnover.
As first reported on www.hulldailymail.co.uk, latest figures show the Hull firm saw turnover grow to £494m in the year leading up to December 31, 2012 – up from £425m in 2011.
The group started out as ship owners in 1870 and now includes fuel distribution, shipping, motor cars, caravan manufacturing and property.
Last year it invested in its first wind farm work boat to carry engineers and equipment to and from offshore wind farms in the North Sea.
Rory Clarke, group board member and managing director of Rix Petroleum said: "Given the state of the UK economy and Europe generally, we were operating in difficult circumstances and are therefore pleased with the results we achieved."
Rix Petroleum increased sales to £391.7m from £317.8m while Marine Bunkering, which supplies marine fuels to shipping vessels, grew revenue from £74.7m to £75m. Its car retail division, Jordans, also grew sales by £1.3m to reach £11.9m.
SERVICES: Henderson Insurance Brokers says businesses in home and export markets should consider sourcing their financial backing through surety bonds and credit insurance rather than the banks.
The Hull firm has organised an hour-long seminar so local companies can find out more.
Associate director Andy Wakefield said: "Companies need as much working capital as possible and the seminar's aim is to show what's available from the market in a succinct and clear way.
The free event takes place at Hull's De Vere Village Hotel on September 5. To book, contact natalie.hunt@hibl.co.uk or call 01482 579800. Reported by This is 9 hours ago.
