Peace protestor and folk singer Julie Felix at the George Hotel This is Devon --

FOLK singer and peace protestor Julie Felix plays at the George on Saturday. Her performance follows a major concert at the Leicester Square Theatre in London, celebrating her 75th birthday.

Julie's long career started when she became the first solo folk artist to be signed to a major British record producer (Decca), after travelling from California, then hitching round Europe with a duffel bag and a Mexican guitar.

After settling in the UK, she established the first New Age Folk Club, The Magic Messenger, providing a platform for budding musicians and poets.

Protest and passion have always been at the heart of Julie's work. In the early 1970s this involved singing to 27,000 people opposing the Vietnam War in New Zealand, and more recently Julie has championed women's and gay rights, the use of landmines and opposition to the Gulf War when she joined Brian Eno, Tony Benn and Mark Rylance in a London concert for Stop The War Don't Attack Iran.

Julie is excited about her first exclusive download single to be released before Christmas this year -– Tiger Eyes. She also plans to work with John Cameron on a new album The Winds of Change.

"Julie Felix is nothing less than a living legend in the folk world, being known across continents for her passionate protest songs on the great moral issues of the day," said George owner Cathy Doel.

"She remains as committed and engaged as ever, and this performance Live@The George promises to be not only an evening of music, but also of conversation and reminiscences guaranteed to delight her admirers."

Julie Felix is at The George Hotel, South Molton on Saturday, September 21, 8.30pm. Tickets: £12 from www.wegot tickets.com/event/207698 or phone 01769 572514. Reported by This is 3 hours ago.
