Phase One Electronic Music And Arts Festival | Pleasure Principle | Dimensions Festival Launch | Below The Line | NTS 2nd Birthday

*Phase One Electronic Music And Arts Festival, Carrick-on-Shannon*

The heart of rural Ireland might seem an odd place to hold a festival dedicated to cutting-edge electronica but, given the country's reputation for producing some of the genre's most talented exponents, it's not so far-fetched. The organisers showcase both popular and less well-known genres of electronic music generated by both Irish and international performers, as well as incorporating multimedia and electronic art exhibitions including Donal Dineen's performance piece The Art Of Music 3. Ulrich Schnauss headlined last night's launch while today's guests include Norway's austere minimalist Biosphere, UK drum'n'bass doyen LTJ Bukem, and local producers and DJs covering everything from trip-hop to techno, via jungle, dubstep, hip-hop, and house in its many and varied forms. We're also promised family-friendly afternoon attractions, including workshops and a Baby Bop for pint-sized future electro recruits.

*Pleasure Principle, Newquay*

This three-day sound carnival is the result of a relationship between weekender pioneers Dedbeat and Glasgow-based basement party specialists Numbers. There's a fair Scottish whiff to its intriguing lineup, too, which charts most points on the dance map. Headliner TNGHT is a collaboration twixt Glaswegian Hudson Mohawke and fellow beat alchemist Lunice, whose highly commercial R&B rave approach is winning many plaudits. Topping the bill on Sunday night is another Scot, Rustie, whose 2011 album Glass Swords won the Guardian's First Album award, and whose new material is as crowd-hyping as ever. But it's genuinely a multinational affair, with David "Ram Jam" Rodigan MBE; Spain's John Talabot; Holland's Legowelt; plus US rap producer Just Blaze, who's now plying EDM. Accommodation includes static caravans and onsite camping, or there's an entrance-only pass for £115.

*Dimensions Festival Launch, Leeds*

With spirits dampened by the UK's seemingly perpetual winter, many are turning to mainland Europe for their festival fixes, particularly the Dalmatian coast of Croatia. Fort Punta Christo in Pula is one of the better backdrops, hosting the Dimensions Festival which has its launch event in Leeds. Regardless of any interest in the festival, tonight's star turns will guarantee a full house. Omar-S, whose FXHE label has been in a purple patch of late, comes from a long line of Detroit DJs who are just impossible to second-guess; fellow American Levon Vincent plays house with vertiginous spiritual depth. Both will also appear at the festival in September.

*Below The Line, Brighton*

Any sage who reckons that good things come in threes should look no further than the bill at Below The Line for validation. When not beefing other grime scenesters like Wiley, headliner Trim uses his MC talents to impressive effect on a seemingly endless production line of mixtapes; while Tessela's Hackney Parrot single is just the latest in a sequence of explosive bangers from this fast-rising 22 year-old DJ-producer. Completing this trio of talent is the Brighton-based Etch, who explores the furthest reaches of grime, dubstep and jungle, and here makes his BTL debut.

*NTS 2nd Birthday, London*

Broadcasting live from Gillett Square in Dalston since April 2011, NTS is the best kind of radio station, uniting the local community through shared musical discovery. Jon Rust, Dobie and Moxie all DJ there, and play this second birthday party alongside esteemed guests from the US. Maxmillion Dunbar is the harbinger of a new, beatific housetronica sound; while Jamie 3:26 can trace his musical education right back to Chicago's legendary Music Box (he's named after the club's old address).
