Pressure on managers 'ridiculous' says Scunthorpe United legend Kevin Keegan This is Scunthorpe -- FORMER Scunthorpe United favourite Kevin Keegan has described the growing pressure on football managers as "ridiculous".

Keegan, who signed for Scunthorpe United as a 16-year-old, spoke at a soccerex forum about the pressure on Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini.

He said: "In any other sport, it would be ridiculous to question someone who has gone into a football club, won their first trophy in 30-odd years and then won the League in the most exciting season ever. It would be ridiculous.

"Europe was a disappointment for City, but you're going to get those. Europe was disappointing for United and Chelsea as well. I don't think there's even any question that anything should happen to Mancini."

Keegan, who scored 18 goals in 141 appearances for Scunthorpe United, went on to play for Liverpool, Hamburg SV and Newcastle United.

He was named European Footballer of the Year twice, and went on to manage Fulham, Manchester City, Newcastle United and England.

At the soccerex forum, in Manchester, he also spoke about other Premier League managers, including former Scunthorpe United boss Nigel Adkins.

Keegan said: "I am getting really worried for Villas-Boas, though. I said on Saturday that they've gone down to fourth, and if they finish there, he'll probably get the sack, because Harry did. Harry finished fourth, and in any other season he would have been in the Champions' League.

"It can't be right, but it can happen. If Nigel Adkins can leave Southampton, or Reading can sack a manager (Brian McDermott) with eight games to go, that tells you everything." Reported by This is 12 hours ago.
