This is Plymouth -- This production of The Lion King is the biggest musical ever to tour the UK and the largest theatrical show to go around Europe. The 52 actors, singers and dancers are from 18 countries. Backstage is a team of more than 100. 250 masks and puppets and more than 700 elaborate costumes representing 26 different animals arrive in 23 lorries. More than 70 million people worldwide have seen Simba and co. The film and show have together grossed more than $2billion (£1.2billion) worldwide. The musical opened in Minneapolis at the Orpheum Theatre in July 1997. In October that year Broadway followed, where it has played since. The show is in its 15th year at the Lyceum Theatre in the West End of London. And the story? Plot spoiler: a young lion has an emotional crisis but eventually becomes king. But the fun is in the journey.
