This is North Devon -- A BEACH in North Devon has been voted one of the top five in Europe by TripAdvisor travellers. The 2013 Travellers' Choice Beaches Awards is based entirely on feedback from millions of TripAdvisor travellers. Woolacombe Beach was crowned second best beach in the UK and fifth best in Europe. First place in the UK went to Rhossili Bay, Swansea, while the top beach in Europe was voted as Rabbit Beach, Sicily. Saunton Sands was voted the 24th best beach in the UK. Emma Shaw, of TripAdvisor, said: "These awards recognise the best beaches in the UK and beyond, according to those that really matter – travellers that have visited these beaches and given them the highest levels of praise. "It's great to see Devon coming up trumps against beaches in Turkey, Italy and Greece." Laura Holt, of Devon Tourism Partnership, said: "We are delighted that Devon has scooped four awards for its beaches, but we are not really surprised as we see visitors returning year on year to take advantage of the miles and miles of sandy beaches along Devon's coastline. "Woolacombe in particular deserves its place in the top five European beaches beating Greece, Turkey and Cornwall. The expansive sandy each is world-renowned – clean and safe with excellent waves for surfing and bodyboarding."
