New Looks for Spring/ Summer 14
This is Hull and East Riding -- 1) *The spring/summer collection 2014 from Alexia Parmigiani* It features over 30 pieces including kaftans, cover-ups as well as her striking signature scarves, many of which come oversized or super-long this season. Since establishing her Alexia brand in 2005, Parmigiani has developed a range that offers infinite styling opportunities, while each creation is presented to the customer in its own branded drawstring bag. Elaborate themes this season range from fantasy prints; an exotic jungle-inspired take on nature as well as vivid patterns that celebrate the glamour and style of retro bathing. Channelling an era when Esther Williams was celebrated for being both a swimmer and a movie star pin-up, the silk georgette Riviera scarf comes dotted with bathing figures and edged with geometric repeat patterns. Retro beachside scenes also feature on the Bardot modal top and silk georgette poncho or on the Party Pool scarf. From parrots to palm trees, everything literally pops on Palm Springs pieces, which include a zip-neck top and a scarf. But it is Alexia's striking Beetlejuice pattern - sure to stop admirers in their tracks - that is the highlight of this collection. There's a kaftan in lightweight silk georgette in tangerine or limoncello, or the Beetlejuice scarf in sumptuous silk satin sized generously and totalling three metres in length. While scarves become more super-sized, some elements of the collection remain the same. Take trims, which have become an Alexia signature. This season there's fringing, tassels and lace edging, together with super soft suede fringe that adds weight to the Moloko scarf - one of the collection's most extravagant pieces. Produced in some of the finest factories in the UK and India, this season the collection comes in luxury fabrics including fine 100 per cent cotton, silk georgette, silk chiffon, silk satin, modal to a lightweight cashmere mix. Retail prices range from £179 to £319. *2) Plum Cardigan* This lovely piece of knitware will keep you cosy through to the spring season. The cardigan is available from La Redoute, RRP: £39. *3)'Washer's' jewellery collection by Alice Menter* Alice Menter has launched her new collection 'Washers'. She has once again transformed the everyday into something precious, using giant gold and silver plated washers stacked together, combined with leather chord and delicately woven into cherry pink and grey suede. Exploring geometry and symmetry to create these structural, bold designs, each piece is handmade in the UK by Alice and her small team. This passion for small scale, and keeping her collection made in the UK hasn't wavered over the last two years despite the business growing rapidly and now stocking in leading department stores such as Harvey Nichols and Fortnum and Mason. Alice Menter works with everyday objects such as hexagonal nuts, zips and washers which she gold and silver plates and combines with elasticated chord, leather and gold and silver chain to create bold, industrial, luxurious statement pieces, which always get the wearer noticed. Current UK stockists include Harvey Nichols, Fortnum and Mason and Fenwicks of Bond Street. Alice Menter also appears regularly at London Fashion Weekend, where new collections have often sold out within hours. One part of the collection includes the Lara necklace, Maisy bracelet and Rosie earrings: Rosie earrings: Silver and gold plated washers, sterling silver hooks RRP £45 / Lara necklace: Silver and gold plated washers, sterling silver chain RRP £162 / Maisy bracelet: Silver and gold plated washers, sterling silver chain RRP £121. Inspiration is found in the pages of old superhero comic books, in the manifesto of the Italian Futurists, and in the systemic strength of urban landscapes and fast machines, ultimately taking form in dynamic panelling and functional detailing. Maintaining the utmost quality throughout each stage of production, Francis Leon sources high-quality materials from around the world, from supple Italian leathers to unusual wool knits from Europe, soft Japanese cottons, and sleek performance fabrics such as neoprene and sportsmesh, ensuring each piece not only looks but feels exceptional. Each garment incorporates Francis Leon's mandatory texture mash-up, intrinsic to their aesthetic signature, but also allows for functionality and ease of wear – jersey sleeve inserts enable comfortable styling; pockets proliferate inside and out; and sportsmesh linings ensure breathability and comfort. Since its inception in early 2009, Francis Leon has rapidly progressed from local to global: the label is now stocked in Australia, Asia, Europe and the United States – notably, Barneys New York, Harvey Nichols in London and Hong Kong, Liberty of London, as well as stockists in New York City, Russia, Switzerland, Canada, Edinburgh, China, Kuwait, Hong Kong and South Korea. www.francisleonstudios.com 6) "RESET" presents itself as the first ever women's collection from German designer, Tim Labenda. Tim's previously been known as a menswear designer only, however this recently changed when he was invited to take part in the Vogue Salon, hosted by Vogue Germany. In order to take part in the exhibition, Tim was required to create his first ever womenswear collection - even though it was daunting, he got stuck in and had something wonderful put together by the end of the process, which he completed with a shoot in London. Tim's Spring/Summer 2014 collection, "RESET", is exactly what it says - Tim resetting everything he previously knew, creating new patterns and starting over with his designs. However, maintaining his devotion to menswear, the entire collection is influenced by Tim's signature clean-cut designs and masculine silhouettes, but with a slight feminine edge to ensure the collection was established as authentic rather than androgynous. The Tim Labenda woman is sexy, flirty and fun; the type of woman who wakes up in the morning and throws on her boyfriend's t-shirt, or pulls on a pair of his jeans to pop down the shops. She has effortless style, and that's exactly what Tim has adopted with "RESET", creating numerous ensembles that are entirely versatile and easy to style. One side of the collection is a contrast of tight blouses with narrow button panels and collars, and the voluminous pants with pleated details and a narrow ankle leg. On the other half of the collection there is a skinny rubber pant in combination with an egg-shaped jacket or an oversized double breasted blazer. The silhouette of the shoulder in the blazer is always sharp and edgy, contrasting with the fluent, voluminous way of the pants. The range of materials is vast, with the aim to ensure the collection is as three dimensional as possible. Natural indigo dyed linen is in contrast to neoprene and soft cotton, and silk combinations contrast against technical materials such as that of the waterproof rain coat. All of the technical materials, especially the rubber jersey, are double faced so that the interior of each garment is always comfortable and cosy. The palette presents numerous shades of blue, white, black, grey and green tones, with the print pulling the palette together. Bibi focuses on clean lines, strict cuts, monochrome colours and a combination of courage with comfort and individuality, removing what she describes as "obtrusive vision and needless details". For Spring/Summer 2014, BEVZA derives her inspiration from every morning - signalling the beginning of a new day, the beginning of life. The origin of this life, our final awakening takes place in the bathroom. Noise and water, geometry and the purity of tiles, clean lines of the space as a whole - ready a girl for new challenges. The morning ritual - this is the moment when she can be alone with herself, and confidently reach out to new prospects. The ritual of purification and is largely associated with the spiritual process. Clean thoughts and loyalty to one's self, first and foremost. The main source of inspiration for this collection comes from the film "26 bathrooms" by Peter Greenaway, and shades of white, champagne, and black flow throughout, accompanied by print. Applications of eco-leather raincoat fabrics and organza emphasis BEVZA's demand for quality. Hints of transparency add a sexiness to an otherwise elegant collection, and the print takes design to a new level as it is inspired by the geometric tiling in a bathroom - the simplest of forms. BEVZA's Spring/Summer 2014 collection offers must-have clutches created using unique 3D printing technology to resemble soap holders, sandal slippers, and jewellery imitating shower hoses. The full collection will be in stores February 2014.
