Jay Marriott: I'd like players who want a five-year career with us This is Plymouth -- JAY MARRIOTT has reiterated his desire for current Raiders players to consider making Plymouth their home long-term. Raiders have nine senior professionals on their 2013/14 roster, but they are all new to the club this season. Coach Marriott does not want to completely overhaul his team every summer. He said: "I'd like players who would like a crack at a five-year career say with one club rather than go to different leagues every year." There is a belief among BBL players that they have not really made it until they are playing in a league in Europe. However, very few actually join one of Europe's big leagues, like Spain or Italy, and instead play far below them. "It's all down to perception, isn't it? And if you're being honest delusions of grandeur," said Marriott. "Players think they have moved onto better things, but when actually they probably haven't. Most end up going into similar leagues with similar pay – just in Europe." What factors will define Raiders retaining players next summer? Marriott said: "It comes down to are they good for the team; are they good for the family you're trying to build; and the performances they actually put in? "If they tick all three boxes it might be very hard to get a player like that back, because of the premium they will have on their head." Whatever happens next summer, Raiders' current team will always be special for rookie boss Marriott. "It's special," he said. "They will always be the first team I put together in the BBL and no-one will ever be able to take that away from me." RAIDERS can look forward to facing Leeds in the BBL next season. The league yesterday confirmed the EBL Division One club would make the jump next summer. Leeds, EBL Division One rivals Bristol Academy and new franchise East Scotland are set to make the BBL 15-strong in 2014/15. BBL chief operating officer Andy Webb said: "We look forward to working with Leeds to develop the club in the coming seasons." Reported by This is 3 days ago.
