Tour the Rhineland on a luxurious cruise This is Plymouth --

THIS wonderful cruise visits some of the most fascinating and beautiful sights straddling the majestic Rhine and Moselle, two of Europe's most picturesque rivers.

Your floating accommodation for your tour is one of the most luxurious vessels navigating these delightful rivers.

Following embarkation in Cologne, you meander south on the Rhine to Rudesheim, visiting the old town of Koblenz and then to Boppard, known as 'the Pearl of the Rhine'. Cruising through the Rhine Gorge, you'll experience spectacular scenery, emerald vineyards and a landscape studded with half-timbered houses and picturesque villages.

The journey takes you upstream and then along the Moselle river calling in at the delightful town of Cochem and the romantic twin village of Traben-Trarbach. At the furthest port of call, Bernkastel, you visit Trier, the oldest city in Germany, famous for its Roman amphitheatre, baths and the imposing Porta Nigra, the huge fortified gate that formed the eastern border of the Roman Empire.

Cruising back downstream, you'll have time to relax and absorb the stunning scenery along the Moselle valley, rejoining the Rhine and heading north, to Cologne. Here you take a guided city tour seeing the stunning cathedral with the most intricate stained glass in Europe.

This spectacular cruise takes in some of Germany's finest landscape.

TWO WEEKS AGO I was lucky enough to visit Cologne, with a whirlwind tour around its stunning cathedral, and a wonderful lunch on board the beautiful five-star Lord Byron, writes Annette Sherrard.

The Lord Byron River Cruise vessel has been designed and decorated by River Cruise experts and has soft carpets, luxurious velvets, comfortable sofas, autumnal colours and floor to ceiling windows that enable you to make the most of the wonderful views as the riverbanks, towns and villages of Europe glide by.

There are many places from which to enjoy the views: the split level sun deck offers plenty of seating, sun loungers and a plunge pool; the sumptuous Panorama Lounge gives you the chance to relax and enjoy a chat or a game of cards with friends and an evening tipple accompanied by a pianist playing a lilting tune; the restaurant where you will savour your meals, from a buffet breakfast to a four-course a la carte evening meal and of course the cabins of the Diamond and Ruby Decks, even the Emerald deck's cabin's give you a duck's eye view as you sail along.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time on board, enjoying tea in the Panorama Lounge, a cocktail on the sun deck and a feast of beef carpaccio with fennel and parmesan salad, pan-fried trout and a wonderful cheese plate accompanied by delicious wine. Reported by This is 3 days ago.
