TV show puts the icing on the cake for bakery expert This is Nottingham --

HIT shows like the Great British Bake Off have been a recipe for success for one cake designer as budding bakers are flocking to attend her courses.

Danielle Gotheridge, 38, of Conway Avenue, Carlton, runs cake decorating classes from her self-titled shop in Goose Gate, Hockley, on Saturday afternoons.

The success of the Bake Off show, currently on BBC2 at 8pm on Tuesdays, has encouraged more people to attend the sessions, which cost £25 including ingredients.

The mum of three, who has written a book entitled All You Need is Cake, will also start a three-week masterclass each Saturday from September 14 to September 28 for those who are keen to learn how to create show-stopping cakes.

The masterclasses are certified courses designed for anyone: from beginners to professional patisserie chefs.

Danielle said: "The courses are definitely busier now and that inspired me to do the book.

"I have also been contacted by magazines to ask if I would do features. It really has taken off and more people do want to learn.

"I design each cake for each person.

"They tell me about themselves and their event, then I design the cake.

"I deliver all over the country and to Europe."

The self-taught cake designer has been operating from the shop in Hockley for about two years.

Before that she had a store in the Victoria Centre and two on the outskirts of the city.

Her eye-catching celebration cakes have proven to be a hit with customers all over the UK and Europe.

She counts Birds of a Feather and Emmerdale actress Pauline Quirke among her customers, and demand for her unique designs continues to keep her busy.

Miriam Ashraf, 20, of Musters Road, West Bridgford, said: "I wouldn't mind going to her courses. I'm not very good at cooking but I'm not bad at baking and I would like to learn more."

Sadie Hitchcock, 16, of Bosden Close, Bilborough, said: "I like watching the bake-off show and my sister makes all her own cakes so I'm sure she would like to go on the course."

Anyone who wants to attend a course session should visit or call the shop on 0115 987 4270.

Private courses are available for groups, including hen parties, birthdays and groups of friends.

Vouchers for the sessions are also available as gifts. Reported by This is 11 hours ago.
