Working to grow the Britax empire This is Scunthorpe --

AN EAST Yorkshire manufacturer is proving British is still best as it continues to further its reach into overseas markets.

Britax PMG employs more than 200 people in Bridlington.

It manufacturers amber hazard warning beacons and light bars for emergency vehicles, as well as lighting and mirrors for construction and off-highway vehicles.

Initially founded in West Yorkshire in the 1950s, the company moved to Bridlington as part of a UK-wide drive to attract permanent employment to seaside towns and areas that were heavily dependent on seasonal work.

Britax PMG has since grown turnover to more than £30m a year, with almost half of its products exported to North America, the Far East, Europe and Scandinavia.

Now, as the company prepares to celebrate 50 years of manufacturing in the town it is urging anyone who has photographs or memories of the site to get in touch.

Managing director Mike Rayner said: "Our long association with the town has seen many challenges as world business patterns and customer expectations change, but we continue to grow and develop through new products and facilities as well as the skills and experience of our workforce.

"I am pleased to say that the Britax PMG Bridlington operation is a key part of this development.

"I am also very proud of the dedication that continues to be shown by our committed work force and the integral role we play in the local economy."

Britax, which is part of the PSE International group of companies, invited Councillor Jane Evison, portfolio holder for economy, and investment, on a factory tour in the run-up to its 50th anniversary celebrations.

She said: "Businesses like Britax are tremendously important to the local economy.

"For the past 50 years and through recent difficult times, they have kept going and employing people.

"Having been round the company, I'm particularly impressed not just with the whole organisation but with the family atmosphere." Reported by This is 3 hours ago.
