This is Leicestershire --

A national insurance company is relocating part of its operation to offices on the outskirts of Leicester.

Towergate is moving about 55 staff in its brokers division from existing offices in Station Road, Hinckley and Nottingham.

From August 22, they will be based in offices in Dominus Way, Meridian Business Park, Braunstone.

A spokesman for the business said a small number of people had opted to take voluntary redundancy rather than move, but said the relocation was part of the company's growth strategy.

Towergate is Europe's largest independently-owned insurance intermediary, turning over more than £2 billion of gross written premium across its companies, with 4,500 UK staff.

The brokers division supplies commercial and personal clients, brokering a broad range of insurance products.

They are also a significant insurance provider to the small and medium sized business market, typically providing premiums of £250,000 and above.

Central region brokers division managing director Joe Thelwell said: "We are moving to Leicester for logistical reasons. We have offices in Stoke and Warwick and want a sizeable office to the east of Birmingham.

"The Leicester office will be focussing on advisory, face-to-face sales, with account executives going out to meet SME and corporate clients in Leicester and further afield.

"Office staff from Hinckley and Nottingham will be moving to this much bigger site.

"There have been one or two people who have not wanted to move across – however this was not a cost-cutting exercise for us, but about growth.

"We are looking for new account executives and new development executives as we expand the sales force further.

"We want to recruit new people from Leicester and we are also looking for acquisitions to make, which is how we have been growing.

"We hope to have a lot more people in the Leicester office in 12 months' time."

Mr Thelwell said the region had about 450 people in its broking division and Leicester will become a key site for it.

He said some staff will remain in the Hinckley office. Reported by This is 4 hours ago.
