REFERENCE John J Jones (July 12), Killers forfeit – this is a point raised by myself with the same views only to be attacked, in no uncertain terms, by a number of readers.
As we are a member of the EU, Britain cannot bring back capital punishment so we have to face up to the fact we have no deterrent to stop the vicious crimes we now see on our streets today.
The only thing killers have to face today is three square meals a day, a warm bed with no worries about bills plus free medical treatment 24/7.
Also taking into account a life sentence does not mean life, and can see the offender released after serving part of that sentence, so life is cheap.
Now we have the courts in Europe telling us that no-one can be kept in prison for murders as it is against their human rights. The way things are now, the offenders have more rights than those offended against.
It is time Britain stood up and said 'enough is enough' and dumped the human rights bill the EU sees fit to impose on us and returns to the British Bill of Rights which had served this country very well for years before the advent of the EU. After all we never got to vote on this did we?
