New city car planned by Suzuki to challenge Juke in Europe

Suzuki will launch a Nissan Juke-size compact crossover in Europe in 2015 as one of five new models planned over the next three years.

A new city car, a more spacious supermini and a production version of the super-economical G70 concept are also planned. The fifth model is the already-revealed SX4 S-Cross, a Nissan Qashqai-rivalling crossover that will go on sale in the UK in September.

The new baby crossover will be built at Suzuki’s Hungarian plant alongside the S-Cross. With the S-Cross moving up a class in size, it is the smaller crossover that will replace the current SX4, which will be built until at least next March.

The new model will be built on a version of the S-Cross’s new platform but will feature an edgier design and offer a range of customisation options.

A replacement for the Alto and Splash will be launched next year. Both cars will be phased out to make way for the new hatch, which is said to offer the space of the Splash and the economy of the smaller Alto.

It will be followed by a more spacious B-segment car in the mould of the Nissan Note. It will complement the Swift but address the limited rear cabin and boot space of that model.

Although not yet signed off, the sub-70g/km G70 city car is expected to crown Suzuki’s expansion in 2015-2016 before a replacement for the Swift arrives in 2016.
