AN East Yorkshire manufacturer is flexing its muscle in the export market as it gears up to further its overseas reach.
Britax PMG employs more than 200 people in Bridlington.
The company, based in the Bessingby Industrial Estate, manufacturers amber hazard warning beacons and light bars for emergency vehicles.
It also makes auxiliary and mandatory vehicle lighting and mirrors for all types of construction and off-highway vehicles.
Strong overseas orders in particular have helped the company grow turnover to £30m, almost half of which represents exports.
Now it is looking to continue building on its export success, furthering trade links into new and expanding markets such as eastern Europe and the Far East. Marketing manager David Timms said: "We export strongly to the USA, Scandianvia and eastern Europe, as well as the Far East.
"We are currently developing our Eastern European markets, as well as those in China."
The company, which is part of the PSE International group of companies, is this year celebrating 50 years of manufacturing in the seaside town after relocating from Yeadon near Leeds in the 1960s.
Initially founded in West Yorkshire in the 1950s, it moved to Bridlington as part of a UK-wide drive to attract permanent employment to seaside towns and areas that were heavily dependent on seasonal work.
Since then, the company has become a significant employer in the local community. Later this year, the company will be marking its 50th year of manufacturing in Bridlington with a series of special events.
Managing director Mike Rayner said: "Our long association with the town has seen many challenges as world business patterns and customer expectations change, but we continue to grow and develop through new products and facilities as well as the skills and experience of our workforce. I am pleased to say that the Britax PMG Bridlington operation is a key part of this development. I am also very proud of the dedication that continues to be shown by our committed work force and the integral role we play in the local economy.
"As with every business, I am sure the coming years will continue to present many challenges, however I am confident in the knowledge that all the team at Britax PMG have the capability of successfully meeting these challenges and that we will remain an integral part of local Bridlington life."
The company is interested in hearing from anyone who has photographs or memories of working at the facility in Bridlington, and is encouraging people who do to send them in. Reported by This is 11 hours ago.
