JACOB Miller will arrive at Hull FC this weekend with little fanfare but big expectations as the 20-year-old begins life in Super League.
No doubt naive to the half-back troubles that have long proven a hurdle to Hull's challenge for honours, Miller will soon find the pressures of life at the Black and Whites may be different to making your mark in the NRL, but no less intense and demanding.
Internally at FC, any expectation will be diluted as the youngster is given time to settle and adapt.
But there's no doubting Miller has been brought to Hull to fill a void.
It's a job he can do with aplomb according to one of the men who knows him best, Warren McDonnell.
The Wests Tigers recruitment manager believes Miller has all the attributes to be a resounding success at the KC and, while calling for time for his former young charge to settle, McDonnell has told the Mail that Miller has made the perfect move.
"Peter Gentle knows Jacob's game inside out and under Peter's coaching Jacob will do very well over there," explained McDonnell.
"Jacob is still learning, he's still a baby really and he'll need time to settle, but he's got plenty going for him."
A month on from finally signing a deal with Hull, who have chased the former Wests Tigers scrum-half since the end of last season, Miller will start his two-and-a-half-year contract after the arrival of his visa this week.
He'll arrive to find his team-mates spread across the country and even Europe, with Hull's players taking a break from the rigours of Super League.
After an enforced break of inactivity while waiting for his clearance, nobody will be more eager to begin training again next week.
Coach Gentle will no doubt take the patient approach, keen to give the youngster the time he needs to adapt and settle.
Miller, being an enthusiastic 20-year-old, will have an opposing view, determined to tackle the challenges ahead straight on and leap in at the deep end at Castleford on Friday night.
Whenever his debut comes, McDonnell, who is the father of Hull's full-back Shannon McDonnell, is convinced Miller can excel.
"I was the one who signed Jacob for Wests and got him over from the Roosters," he added.
"He was very good in the younger grades and we were delighted to get him on board. He's such a lovely kid and he can play too.
"He's got a great kicking game, he has great vision and can control a game very well.
"There are not too many half-backs that are great defenders, but what I will say about Jacob is he is prepared to put his body on the line in defence.
"I'm confident he will do very well over there." Reported by This is 8 hours ago.
